Perfect Resorts for Beautiful Fall Getaways
Happy November! Finishing out my Fall posts with a round up of some of the most perfect resorts I would highly recommend which I have travelled to over the past few years. Looking for last minute Fall or end-of-the-year travel ideas? Want to see some Fall foliage in different parts of the US? Take a look at this list which will tell you the best travel tips and month to go to each one!
Kalahari Resort in Pocono Manor, PA
Since we just got back from Kalahari Resorts in the Poconos, let me start with this one. My family has been going to Kalahari Resort in the Poconos about every 6 months for about two years now! It is our favorite! It is clean, staff is usually friendly and helpful, the food is amazing, the rooms are huge, and the indoor waterpark is now the largest in America! Not only that, but the location is tucked away in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of North Eastern PA. You really feel like you are away on a far off vacation when you go. No matter what side of the resort your room is on, you have a gorgeous view of the Poconos. I can tell you after being there just before Halloween both last year and now this year that the Fall colors will be best anytime from late September-late October.
This resort seems expensive, and usually not on sites like booking.com or livingsocial.com. However, a travel tip I would offer that we always go on is watch for their monthly specials such as bogo free nights. Also keep an eye on their Spa deals. We just tried their Spa for the first time, and found when we asked at the desk were offered 45 minutes Salt Cave session combined with an all-day Spa Amenities pass for only $45! We tried it all, and it was amazing! After that, we both decided we might be adding the Spa on to our traditional 6 month Kalahari trips!
Allenberry Resort in Boiling Springs, PA
If you follow the Instagram or Twitter for Balance & Blessings, you might have seen posts about Allenberry Resort. This Resort has been around for a long time, but came under new owners about two years ago. They revamped pretty much everything, and opened the resort up to host many more activities and public events. The resort has quite a few buildings and cottages, but the property itself is not too overwhelming. The backdrop of the property which contains a pretty view of the Yellow Breeches Stream and a thick treeline offers a cozy vibe. Sitting on a bench here, admiring the fall colors coming into those trees while the stream softly runs nearby is very relaxing.
There is a fine dining restaurant on property, plus plenty of space for weddings and other events. The food is great, and they are known for their sticky buns. You might also reserve yourself a Spa Day package or service in the full-service Salon & Spa on property. It also provides a nice view of the entire back of the grounds. I think the best time of year to see the Fall foliage is mid-October-beginning of November, as long as we do not have an early snowstorm.
Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg, NJ
In the hills just below the Southern New York border is a giant Resort that contains 2 properties, six golf courses, two spas, several restaurants, and a Biosphere Pool Complex. Crystal Springs Resort offers views off the side of a mountain of the gorgeous surrounding area. I did not stay over (yet) at this resort, but did go to use the Spa for the first time this past summer. The views we had then were nice, so I can only imagine what it is like in Autumn! From what I know after growing up in NJ, I think the best time to go would be late September through Mid-November.
Stay at Grand Cascades Lodge in Hamburg, NJ, with Dates into December – Check out this Living Social deal! If you do get to go, definitely get a service at the Spa! It was very nice, and included a complimentary foot scrub and chocolates.
Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, West Virginia
The Bavarian Inn is where we celebrated our Wedding Anniversary a few years ago. This German Themed Resort sits right against the Potomac River on the West Virginia side. If you like traditional German anything, this one is for you.
My favorite part of this resort was the Infinity Pool. The Infinity pool was right up against the Potomac River so it had a wide view looking either down towards the river, or out towards the surrounding hills. We went in August, but I have been to this area often enough to know Fall foliage views are best from mid-September through the beginning of October.
Liberty Mountain Resort in Fairfield, PA
I had to mention this resort since I have been here for several events, and recently helped out in their Spa again. Liberty Mountain Resort is located in South Central PA, very close to Maryland. It has expanded in recent years to be more appealing year round besides just to skiers during ski season. It now features several buildings and wedding venues, indoor pools, golf, a spa, restaurants, and more besides the usual snow resort activities. This resort is surrounded by mountains so no matter where you go on property you can see mountains nearly 360 degrees around you. Best time to see the Fall colors is Mid-October through beginning of November.
Marriott’s Streamside Evergreen at Vail, Colorado
This might have been the most memorable and obvious change of Fall colors I have ever seen away from home! We went to Colorado in September about 8 years ago for a vacation in Vail. Surrounded by towering mountains around us, it was easy to see how the trees changed from the beginning of the week to the end. I would definitely go around the same time again in mid-September! This time of year they are nearing the end of what we usually consider to be late fall weather in PA. It is very cool, especially since it is higher altitudes, but outdoor activities are still bearable.
We got to do some hiking, as well as enjoy a giant Oktoberfest celebration. No matter where you go the views are incredible, and there are plenty of places to explore! We enjoyed our resort as well, The Marriott Streamside Evergreen. We mostly ventured off property during our time there, but our 1 bedroom suite was very comfortable to come back to.
Try any one of these perfect resorts, and let me know if you do! Where else would you try to go in the Fall?
Thanks for reading!
